I went to Shanghai and X'ian. There was so much to see and do. With the exchange rate your money will go a long way. Best place to go if you're looking for a cultural experience. Nice nightlife as well!

I'm an older traveller thinking of stop-over in Laos on route to oz. I'm just concerned about health care in the country. I'm thinking of staying in the capital for a week. Any help/advice welcome.

Really beautiful land-locked country in the middle of the jungle; friendliest people imaginable; good, clean and cheap accomodations in Luang Phabang and Vang Vieng. If you've got some patience for slow transport, this is an exciting place to get away from it all.

I spent last xmas & NY in Laos & it was amazing. Tubing/partying in Vang Vieng, beer Laos. Sadly the experience was spoiled by heavy border guards charging me $10 a day for overstaying my visa. Should be $5! Lone female, at night, marched to a room with 3 male armed guards. Not good. I'd still go back tho!

I backpacked in Laos in 2005 and it was FAB!! Really untouched by Western hands.... people are nice, food is edible... definitely eat off markets...its so cheap!! Barter for everything...!!

Vang Vien is a must for all backpackers... the tubing is wicked with the bars on the Mekong river.... Luange Prunbang is a must also!!!

On a trip to Xang Si we rolled up kips, popped them into balloons and bopped them out the back of the tuk tuk.. the kids loved the balloons as we went through the villages... plus they got some money for the poor villages.!!! It was fab to see there faces....

I'm hoping to go back with my boyfriend and show him the sites next year when I backpack again..a truly magical place...
