I visited Paris for 5 days with my boyfriend in December 2004between Christmas and the New Year.

Paris is a beautiful city, we used the metro on a few occassions and made our way on foot the rest of the time.

Going up the Eiffel Tower is much less expensive than you would expect, my tip is to do it at night, the queues are much shorter and the view is just as spectacular, Also, the tower twinkles on the hour every hour one it gets dark.

The Louvre is worth a visit, but make sure you plan the main things you want to see before you start wadering around, the time goes by quite quickly and it's easy to get lost in one of the many vast galleries. When walking around the Touilleries outside the Louvre be careful of getting tricked by very friendly French artists who just have to draw your picture and refuse to let you walk away until you have paid them a pricely sum for it. As long as you keep walking you're alright.

All in all it;s a beautiful city and I would say the public transport is an excellent way of travelling around it.
